The Australian Bush Laureate Awards were launched in 1996 to foster, encourage, promote and recognise excellence in Australian Bush Poetry.
During the Tamworth Country Music Festival, the prestigious Bush Laureate Awards are held in the air-conditioned Tamworth Town Hall. Some of Australia's best country singers share the stage with a selection of Australia's finest bush poets who vie for the esteemed Golden Gumleaf trophies.
All nominations for these awards must be commercially released and are judged on criteria including quality of verse, presentation and production, entertainment value and Australian character of the verse. These awards recognise Book of the Year, Album of the Year, Single Recorded Performance of the Year, Children's Book Or Album of the Year and the Judith Hosier Heritage Award
