Snapshot of Festival
Dunedoo Bush Poetry Festival committee is preparing for a bonza festival for 2009. This festival is held the first Saturday weekend March each year being 5, 6, 7 and 8 in 2009.
Thursday 5th. The festival starts on the Thursday night 5th March with an improved Meet and Greet at the Caravan Park. A BBQ will be available along with free entertainment by the local Sing Australia group or other entertainment. Free site accommodation is always available this night and at the showground after the caravan Park is full.
Friday bus tour of the local area is always popular going to different areas each year with die hard locals as commentators. Booking are essential at $15pp, bring you own lunch. We will provide a cuppa and morning tea. This is a good opportunity to see the bush as it is.
Friday The poetry competition starts at the Central School hall on Friday with junior sections for primary and secondary.
Friday night is Yarns telling with $250 for best yarn not told before at a Dunedoo Festival and held at the Golf Club. BBQ or Chinese smorgasboard will be available with competitions starting 7pm. Admission if free. Colonial music will follow for a great night’s entertainment.
Saturday morning in 2009 the markets will take on a new beginning with interesting demonstrations and displays. Early Australian music will add atmosphere. Watch for updates of demonstrations.
The festival will be offering new prize money of over $3000 for Poetry and Yarn Spinning with a junior performance and junior written competitions. Open Written Competition a bonus for best Humorous written poem.
Saturday competition will be Novice, Classical, Original and Contemporary sections with own prize money with $200 each for champion male and female poet.
Saturday night Milton Taylor and Lennie Knight will be guest artists along with a medley of poets and a great time is assured. Admission $20 includes supper. Bookings preferred.
Sunday morning from 8am in Lions Milling Park, enjoy a Poet’s Breakfast and Brawl (One minute poem made up over the weekend from a topic purchased for $2 on arrival. Winner takes all) with the festival finishing around 11am for an early return home. Heaps of fun! Think you are a bit of a poet,. Anyone one can have a go in a supportive atmosphere.
