HRH QUEEN ELIZABETH II - DEPARTED OUR WORLD 8.9.2022

REUNITED .. Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBarkPoet

She led her great nation for seventy years,
filled with pomp and ceremony, laughter and tears.
And always she appeared as regal and stoic
sometimes she was frail but at others heroic.

Her strength and stay left her here on her own
a small bird like woman on one huge big throne
but she held to her role and the duty she gave
was never diminished from cradle to grave.

And we loved her, our Queen, she was our shining light
who led us through some of the darkest of nights
but death crept in sadly and stole her away
as it does to us all - for we can't time delay.

There’s a stairway to heaven or so we’ve been told
with a bright light that leads us up stair treads of gold.
There are gates that stand open – they're solid and wide
and we see friends and loved ones all waiting inside.

The old earthly body now garbed in soft white
has life’s disappointments removed overnight.
Tired spirits feel blessed, and reborn. Steps are youthful.
Those stories of Heaven it seems might be truthful.

We doubted, we wondered, could it really be
that we’d be reunited with loved ones, and see
once again well loved faces who’d been gone for years
and feel their embraces, amidst laughter and tears.

And so in my dream I hear our Queen laugh loud
just happy to be the centre of a crowd
of family and friends she's been longing to see
and none more than those of her own family.

Her smile is so bright her posture unrestrained
any ills felt on earth are no longer retained,
she bids us 'don't worry - and please your fears quell
though I'm sorry I left with no words of farewell.

Just think of me now as in another room
and don't for a minute sit sunken in gloom
'twas the end of my journey - I welcome my fate
for I'm home now with loved ones I've missed. Celebrate.'

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.
