Shadowed Sands

A short piece. The first time I have ever attempted to write a love poem.

Shadowed Sands

as the waking sounds of morning and the last soft breath of night
retreated in surrender to the dawn’s early light
she walked across the shadowed sands to where the waters spoke
of the miles that they had travelled beneath a night time cloak

and her memories flooded back then - to a time - a life before
when laughter filled her being and love was at its core
to another dawn another time a million dreams ago
when even stars shone dimly in her heart’s radiant glow

no poet’s words had ever matched the lyric of her feeling
no song with verses rich enough no sweet love so revealing
and each remembered whisper that told of secrets shared
was a priceless magic moment – a time of love declared

but love is built on promises – some not forever cast
birthed into remorseless winds without the strength to last
and so with every wave that kissed the unforgiving shore
she walked her lonely tears across the shadowed sands once more

Good on you Wazza,
A bit of an old romantic indeed! :D
Enjoyed the read and what a great line; 'birthed into remorseless winds without the strength to last'.
Good to see you posting again.
Cheers,
Ron.

Thanks Ron. I'm beginning to write a bit - again. When I'm not fishing, thinking about fishing, wishing I were fishing. :D :D

Good onya Wazza, I'm hearing you, I have started getting a few lines pop into my head from time to time lately but haven't started putting pen to paper again as yet... like you fishing is quite a prominent part of my life now, beside doctors appointments and lots of trips to Adelaide, generally to get bits cut off, lights in my eyes or things being repaired...getting old ain't all beer and skittles ay?

This is lovely, Wazza, and as Ron said, that's a beautiful line - I love the last line as well. This poem really touches the heartstrings!

I must have missed this one Wazza

I loved it too, but I always have liked your style of writing even harking back to your earlier work.
Always so full meaning and in this case longing as well

Keep them coming mate,

Terry
