homework july '25. Hopes of Peace.

Hopes of Peace.
© Ron Boughton. July ‘25.

He sat in solemn silence, waiting, for the raid to pass,
and all around were leaking roofs, and shattered, frosted glass,
where freezing winds made mockery of missiles deadly heat
that sadly any hour of the day, could his hometown greet!
Like many cities in Ukraine, the once calming blue skies,
were now transformed to shades of horror, that greet saddened eyes!
And where rays of sunshine once, could warm deep into the soul,
It was the cold winds of war that now, for all, took its toll!

The siren sounded to give the sign, at last, all was clear,
so he inched towards the window, with nerves still quaking fear!
The sun was rising, showing slow abatement of the dark,
and there he viewed, where people once had picnics in the park,
the senseless sad destruction of a past enclave of green,
a bright, communal hub of city pride, that once had been!
where townsfolk could all harmonise with nature at their will
but now it was silent tears, with enshrouded dread-like chill!

He cursed the despot bullies who had caused all this sorrow
and fiercely hoped that karma would repay their tomorrow!
Then his beloved country, could start a brand new, peaceful phase,
and once again, they could partake of freedoms crisp clear days.
where fresh youth would not be wasted in a mad tyrant's war,
that has been shown down history’s path so many times before
and these misty mornings memories, in time, will slowly fade,
and the common person …shall never again feel afraid!

So true Ron,
Despite the horrors of the past the world hasn't learnt a thing,
as your poem so clearly portrays, we're still cursed with Despot Bullies.
And worryingly there could be even greater dangers waiting in the wings.

A really thought-provoking poem Ron with no punches pulled.
Well said mate.

Thanks Terry, much appreciated.
And as you say there could be even greater dangers waiting in the wings, certainly a concern for all!
Cheers
Ron.
