Homework w/e 27/08/12 - SHADOWS

SHADOWS

Through mists of black depression he now saw her pretty face
a beacon shining brightly in the night
her slender hands held roses with pink petals velvet soft
the scent of them just filled him with delight.
Her voice was soft and gentle and her eyes were wet with tears
I’ve missed you love I’m so glad you’ve come back.
He didn’t know he’d been away, but then again perhaps
his mind had wandered somewhere off the track.

The black haze that surrounded him was turning slightly blue;
and lighter by the minute as they spoke.
His girl was such a gentle soul whose tears he couldn’t bear
and he was such a taciturn rough bloke.
Together they had formed a team, an alliance of souls
for both loved country life, though hard it seemed.
They’d overcome the obstacles and achieved many goals
but all alas was not as they had dreamed.

Who ever knew the big bloke with the blue eyes and cute smile
had demons such as these lurking within.
For thirty years they’d hidden deep inside where demons dwell
until they surfaced much to his chagrin
when daily woes became too much and seemed the land he loved
had turned on him and kicked when he was down;
then catatonic he became, withdrawn, depressed, angry
and would not leave the farm to go to town.

Until one day his Dad came by and sat down face to face
saying, it's OK boy I’ve just come to help.
Let's go and see the Doctor mate and see what we can do,
you should have called me earlier – you whelp.
There’s nought to be ashamed of lad – we’ve walked the path you’re on
and most men on the land have overcome
their troubles. Help is there to see you right and get you strong.

Once more his dad’s strong arms embraced his son.

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

Hi ya Maureen & Jim
They are both beautiful poems, it's just one has a black dog and the other a white dog. Enjoyed them both!

I'm inclined to believe that a mystery friend intervened on my behalf !!

Peeley. Oh Peeley, my thanks is extended
for causing My Shadows to be sensibly blended.
