Homework - A Night without moonlight - Winter Darkness

Can I cheat? My muse has long left me - tho' I am planning on hunting it down!!
I just ducked in for a quick look on the new topic - just in case something came to me.
I wrote this a few years ago - it seems to suit the topic for now, but will try and write a new one later.
It has a number of mistakes in it but I don't feel inclined to change it at present - maybe I will look at it once I get fully into temporary retirement mode!!!

I sit alone in darkness, and I contemplate the starkness
of a night sky that has donned a coat of black.
For the stars have all been hidden by the dark clouds that have ridden
on the breezes ‘till they’ve formed a solid pack.
They have shrouded all the moonbeams that appeared in afternoon dreams,
and I sit here disappointed with the sight.
But a peace descends upon me, and it seems that I can soon see
moving shadows that are drifting in the night.
With my vision slowly clearing to the beauty that’s appearing
in a sky that is no longer inky black,
I can see the shadows forming and my disappointment’s warming
as the clouds begin to open just a crack
I can see a distant twinkle as the rain begins to sprinkle,
and I feel the stirrings of a gentle breeze.
There are sounds of raindrops falling, and a lonely nightbird calling,
and the whisper of the wind among the leaves.
And I find that I’m enjoying what at first I found annoying,
for it has a beauty of its very own.
And I’m finding it a pleasure, and a special time to treasure
as I sit within the darkness all alone.
