Homework 15/6/20 'Fifteen Miles From Minderoo'

Post by Terry » Mon Jun 22, 2020 2:34 pm

I don’t know where this sprung from, but I was thinking of what the prompts requested for next months homework and this popped into my mind.
It’s not exactly what was asked for but at least it’s supposed to be a song. Although it’s meant to be sung by a girl – any takers?
It's a bit mushy!

Fifteen Miles from Minderoo

As the bright lights lose their sparkle – Billy
and of city life you tire.
Can you hear the outback calling – Billy,
do you miss the old campfire?

When the time has come to start back,
I’ll be waiting here for you.
Where the Ghost Gums seem to whisper,
fifteen miles from Minderoo.

Will you think of me once more then – Billy,
as the months pass slowly by?
For the nights are long and lonely – Billy,
ever since you waved goodbye.

If I know when you are coming,
I’ll be waiting here for you.
Where the Ghost Gums seem to whisper,
fifteen miles from Minderoo

So I watch the track in hope now – Billy,
that my spirits will soon soar,
When I see you in the distance – Billy,
as you head on home once more.

And you know that I’ll be waiting,
For my heart is aching too.
Where the Ghost Gums seem to whisper,
Fifteen miles from Minderoo.

Good little country song Terry. Over in the barbarian wastes of the east a gimlet is a boring tool :o but I found out it is a WA tree.

Thanks Neville

And thanks for reminding me of what Gimlets mean over your way.
Over here they are also a lovely tree found all through the goldfields and most of the pastoral country as well.

As you can see it was a bit of a rush job, written in about an hour - I have probably overdone the 'Billy' thing a bit.
Might see if I can spruce it up a bit - starting with a different gum tree - watch this space.

Cheers

Terry

Well I like it and I thought a Gimlet was a drink  a cocktail made from Gin and Lime juice - not sure where that bit fitted in but no matter.

Try interspersing the Billy with an endearment, it will soften it a bit eg - Darling, Sweetheart, Precious.

I can hear the song Terry

Hi Maureen

Thanks for the comment and also for the suggestions.
I like a challenge, so I will have a go and see if I can make something half reasonable out of this.
