BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE ... Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBarkPoet

There's a winter wrap up happening around our Southern Land
as temperatures plummet around the nation
and the scarves, ugg boots and beanies reappear across the land
along with Oodies - the latest sensation
of clothing to warm us up as we shiver and we shake
they're hardly garments styled to perfection
but for warmth they can't be beaten - they are warm and cuddly
the very latest form of warmth protection.

We Queenslanders especially find cold weather quite daunting
once the temperature drops 'neath twenty four.
We are covered in sunshine for most months of the year
and our blood is thin and cold tolerance poor.
I could not retire in Sydney for the cold would do me in
though the harbour waters do somewhat appeal.
I could never be a cockroach for my blood's coloured maroon
and the cold down there could see it all congeal.

You can keep the snow that's falling as we speak up in Blackheath,
and Guyra and those Upper Hunter regions
whilst I've no desire to go to see the snow at Perisher -
I'll share the love in other warmer seasons.
I've never had the urge to travel once to climates cold
nor have I understood the fascination
that Aussies have with snow - although it is pure 'tourist gold'
which draws its share of human adulation.

No! I'm staying here in Queensland where at least the days are warm
though the nighttime temperatures do quickly fall.
Sheepskin Ugg boots I am wearing, so my tootsies are quite warm
whilst my Oodie I am wearing over all.
I'm a wuss and I admit it - and I'm worse now I am old
the cold weather once concerned me not at all
but I find that like a bear, now I just want to hibernate
for the winter weather does not me enthrall.

Brrr...makes me cold just reading this Maureen! Once again you are so quick off the mark with the homework, and this is an enjoyable and very topical poem right now, with the Blue Mountains experiencing snowfall and whatnot. It's always hard to imagine the cold as I sit here in thirty-plus degrees every day in sleeveless clothing, rain or shine!

I'm a bit like you Maureen

Not over fond of the cold, mind you it can get flam'en freezing in the arid areas at this time of year as well.

Very descriptive and you had me scurrying to put on my own uggies.
Well thought out poem and you have covered all bases.

As Catherine has said, once again you are quick of the mark as well.

Terry

You have painted good word pictures there Maureen, and yes it has been a tad chilly here this week! I do love the defined seasons though and we certainly get them here. :D But what a great country we have, with a climate somewhere to suit everybody, we are pretty lucky I reckon.
Enjoyed the poem and like Catherine and Terry said you were quick off the mark! I have a couple of ideas rattling around but nothing that has jumped out at me yet.

No doubt about it Maureen, despite where you were born, you are definitely a dyed-in-the-wool Queenslander now!!
