Unlike the clever pieces already posted, there is nothing hidden or metaphorical in my effort for the current prompts!

DANCING WITH THE STARS
(c) Shelley Hansen 10/11/21

Reality TV shows often bore me, I confess.
It's more about the conflict than the skills they may possess.
I don't care much for gossip or opinions they may air -
I've had more fun while vacuuming, or in the dentist's chair!

There's just one show that bucks the trend - or so it seems to be -
that's Dancing with the Stars - and so it still appeals to me.
The syncopated cha-cha blends with rhumba's stately air,
the tango of the compadron, and paso-doble's flair.

They're dressed in black tuxedos (or in jeans to rock the jive).
The dance of passion smoulders, and ambition is alive.
They navigate the quickstep and the samba's saucy sway.
The slow-slow-quick-quick foxtrot is a challenge (so they say).

Some sets are built with champagne towers - others seem to glow
with echoes of Vienna in the days of long ago.
Like disco-dancing droplets, some arrangements seem to ring
with music of the future that is synchronised in swing.

Celebrities return for weeks, until the final two
compete to claim the trophy, with commitment shining through.
A fleeting thought impels me to rise up and join the beat ...
but no! I think I'll cheer them from the comfort of my seat! :D

Wonderful, Shelley! I totally agree with you on this, and I know that feeling of wanting to get up out of my seat! You've gone through so many dances here - I love them all (or at least I did, back in the day!)

Thanks Ron and Catherine! It's a bit of froth and bubble!

I can't claim to have danced them all, though Rod and I did take some ballroom dancing classes for a while when we were courting.

More of a shuffle these days!!

Cheers
Shelley

Loving your 'froth and bubble' Like you I am a fan of Dancing with the Stars and I admire the dedication and hard work that goes into producing the end result - very much like poetry in so many ways, but we get to do that from scratch just sitting in our chairs  I can handle that.
As always you made terrific use of the prompts to weave your magic

Thank you so much Maureen. You're the one who thinks them up - and as Catherine often says, without the prompts these poems would not have been written - and as many have become the foundation of prizewinners, we can only be grateful to you that our trophy cabinets are not empty! :D

Hi Shelley

I must admit that I'm not a fan of Dancing with the Stars' or any other TV dancing show.

But that didn't stop me from enjoying your poem - quite educational in fact -
Had me wondering, if in fact I'd been missing out - ah well, ignorance is bliss, so the say.

Very Clever Shelley.

Terry
