H/work for January 2023 - THE EMPTY VOID

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Mon Jan 09, 2023 9:36 am

THE EMPTY VOID .. Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBarkPoet

The old year is over, the new years's waltzed in
and Lord knows the terrible troubles we've seen
which we all hoped had ended, but seems they have not
for one could be perceiving that Mum's lost the plot.
Mother Nature that is, she's a tough ballsy dame
and she's flogging us mercilessly.......Oh! The pain.

How the mighty have fallen all over the world,
we're at war with Russia, China has unfurled
the news that old Covid has ramped up the game,
with deaths on the rise again - Who should we blame?
There's Harry and Megan now out of the fold,
berating the Royals as their stories are told.

Grab your rainbow flag and pop the champagne
for Sydney's about to be swamped once again
by the L.G.B.T.Q. community at play
at a seventeen day party for which they will pay
big bucks for their tickets - it won't me enthrall
for this old Cinderella weren't asked to the ball.

Come May we will see our King crowned - Charles the Third
a 'ghastly inexorable experience' was heard
to erupt from his lips - he plans to make it short
the crowning - not the reigning - then with his consort
he will take on the mantle - become head of state,
but plenty in Australia will still call him mate.

Meanwhile out at Tamworth - the comp's hotting up
for the Golden Guitar - new talent popping up,
young Isaiah Firebrace will the young girls enthrall
and Troy Cassar-Daley will run rings around all
but it's anyone's guess who will win on the day
the return of honour is hard to make stay.

But no matter what happens - or who the folks are,
you can bet that we Aussies are fronting the bar,
a glass of amber fluid lifted high to toast
whoever the winner - along with the boast
that we're making memories - Good health and Good Cheer
as we toast our great country and another damn year.

Hi Maureen

You have covered it all Mate

Mind you my new year wish is that Harry and Megan will crawl down a hole somewhere and leave us in peace.
You're also right about Mother nature baring her teeth again and reminding us, just who is boss.
But for me I think I'll just amuse myself and try scribbling a few poems to amuse myself,
and pretend all the rubbish going on around the world is just a bad dream.

Cheers

Terry

Yes, really well done Maureen, and what a year it was when we look back, and so much of it not so good at all!
Let's hope 2023 is better and we are spared the SPARE and his missus! and Putin and co. disappear of the face of the earth.
And Mother nature certainly is the bottom line for sure.
As Terry said you have covered it all! ;)
Cheers
Ron

This is great, Maureen - it covers so many of the crazy debacles that have been going on, and even teaches me something I wasn't aware of with the LBQT thing, ha! You really have covered it all, and regardless of all the garbage that's still occurring around the world have managed to end it on a positive note. Enjoyed this read!
