What a find

Post by Bob Pacey » Wed May 11, 2011 8:41 am

Oh the joy of opp shops just picked up a copy of a book Australian Poets Speak which not only includes poems but where possible a comment from the poet or a brief article on them.

The cost 20 cents

Looks like I'll be reading for a while.

Excellent book Bob and I am sure you will enjoy it.
You will find it contains a great selection of seldom seen or heard traditional poems as well as what I reckon is very good assortment of free verse poems. Bet you like Ian Mudie's, Hey Blue it's Raining.

G'day Bob,

I have a volume "Australian Poets Speak" It says on page iv 'sixth impression October 1970'. I have had it since about 1977. It was bought new for study purposes and has become a litle worse for having moved house so many times and being shoved in boxex for uncertain periods of time. The first poem is "Clancy Of The Overflow". Is yours the same edition?

So same book but yours is older edition.

It has some classics. There are some poets I have not read before. I have used this book as a reference many times. It was propably the first poetry book I ever had. Now my poor shelves are becoming sway backed.

We have six monthly book fairs to raise money for charity and I have been able to buy loads of books. I usually grab every poetry book I can find. Then I sort through at home and re-donate the ones I don't want. At one time I had four Adam Lindsay Gordon the same title. The charity does well, sells the same book several times because I know a few other people who do the same as I do.,
