C.J. Dennis Society member Maggie Somerville had an entertaining encounter with a cockatoo over the weekend.

Poor thing might have had a sore spot that Maggie unknowingly 'scratched' .. pretty amazing though, they are very intelligent birds

This clip gave Rod and me a good giggle, Stephen - we could just see it coming! When Rod was growing up his family had a cocky who would "surprise" people with a nip at the most unexpected times. Rod's cousin still talks about being doubly wary of him just when he appeared to be extra-friendly!!

He was a prolific talker, dancer and used to laugh like a human, I believe.

Cheers, Shelley

They say they're quite intelligent - could be right.

My Daughter used to have a galah called Max, it used to say
'Hello, my name is Max, I'm an eagle.'
It still does apparently, some friends of my wife lived on a rural block and they took him, all the seeds and stuff the bird scattered around used to attract mice so my daughter got rid of him...to a good home of course.
