G/day Marty,
One of the things that has always amazed me is how a small minority of people can have such influence over the rest of us, for instance as you mention 'political Correctness' nobody seems to agree with it, but still we are lumbered with it somehow. Of course there is that magic word 'Racist' the most powerful word in their arsenal, if anyone doesn't agree with them, it's because they are racist.
I can't help but think there is something wrong somewhere when I see so many young men are leaving Afghanistan to seek asylum here while we are sending our young blokes over there to be shot at and unfortunately in some cases being killed, It's time to bring our blokes home and the Americans should do the same, and as for the those fools who try to put the boot into our young chaps, they're beyond contempt. Oops there's goes my invitation to dine at the lodge.

Terry Dinner at the lodge you would have to pay for it in the end anyhow.
Matry can you tell me why it is that we (the lighter skins) are racist if we speak out, But if 'they' speak out they are only defending themself, go figure.
If you ask me it's all crap.

and God forbid one of them called Julia a 'ranga' I thought that was the new Aussie terminology for a redhead - there's two in my family..years ago they would have been called 'Blue'...totally agree that political correctness has got out of hand and been taken to ridiculous lengths....good question that Terry - Why do we still have it?
I think somewhere along the line political correctness has become confused with good manners. Since most of us aren't 'political' or involved in 'politics' it should be reserved for politicians and the rest of us can just keep on keeping on with hopefully some added emphasis on politeness at the same time.
As for racism that too I think has become confused with good manners. Name calling and labelling will always be divisive. School yard bullying taken into the adult world - and don't we see that all the time - the bad language and behaviour and name calling in neighbourhood disputes. Current affair shows thrive on it. Who wants that in their lives.
Who wants to live with that going on around them.
As Marty has pointed out this war in Afghanistan is like the Vietnam war in so far as the soldiers know not who the enemy is. Women, children, old people could all be suicide bombers. Sad as it is one cannot blame them for treating everyone as the enemy until they are bloody sure they are not. Why are our troops even there??? Will the loss of Australian, American, English soldiers over there solve their problems?..I think not.
Hatred is like a cancer - it eats away - those who hate will ultimately pay the penalty as well as their victims, one way or another.

Hi again Everyone,
Dave the thing about missing out on an invite to the Lodge is that I've also blown my chance to bore the hell out of them with a bit Bush Poetry, damn.
