Choice Of Poems

Hi Everyone ( See that is non gender specific ) I was wondering if I could get some suggestions as to some older style poems to learn. I already do The Man From Snowy River, The Man From Ironbark, Clancy Of The Overflow and My Country but my mind is craving more to learn and perform. Bear in mind my audience can vary from van parks to Probus dinners and everything in between. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

... Errr, sorry Bob, I need to remind you that there IS a difference between Blokes and Sheilas. If you can't see the obvious - we can't hold out much hope for you ...

Some of our Ladies are not too fussed about the title, "Sheila" (even though it's 'real' Australian) - but that's OK.

Probably best to address this way, "G'day Blokes and Blokettes!"
(I don't think Sheilas and Sheilors would work)

G'day Bob, you could purchase a copy of Jim Haynes book, The Book of Australian Popular Rhymed Verse. ABC Books 2008. That'll keep you going for quite a while.
It includes The Man from Kaomagma.....that should appeal to you

hi Bob...sweeney by henry lawson always goes over well..especially as many of the the country music fans and seniors will know it because slim dusty immortalised it back in the 60's with avery popular 45 record/...

'The Play' and 'An Old Master' by CJ Dennis both always go down well. 'The Singing Soldiers' is also a ripper. For something a bit different you could try 'The Growth of Sym'. 'A Digger's Tale' is a beauty, as is 'Washing Day' (all Dennis). You can google them all.

I also really like 'Andy's Gone With Cattle' by Henry Lawson.

GENDER SPECIFIC is it?

How about this one.

When I was kid I knew an old Italian bloke in Queanbeyan named Michael Inaimo. His English wasn't too bad but the one thing I remember was his greeting whenever we crossed paths; whether I was alone or in a crowd.
He would say 'Good morning ANYBODY' and give a little wave and a bit of a chuckle.

Hi Bob,
I also like 'The Old Master'. there is also a short Henry Lawson poem called 'On The Summit Of Mount Clarence' it's only 18 lines and was written when he was in W.A. working for the Albany Advertiser, Have a read and let me know what you think of it.

One of my favourites is 'The Sick Stockrider' by Adam Lindsay Gordon.

The other is 'The Separation' by Lawson.
