If it's just the site we are talking about, or rather just the forum, I suspect one of the major drawbacks is having to register and log in every time you want to read something that isn't in the public viewing area. And maybe the fact that some things are out there but not others is a bit of a drawback too. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can access any poetry (apart from audio) from the public viewing area. If I was just now looking at the forum for the first time I might think that what was available without registering was all there was.

Interesting topic guys, being a newy to the sight I would like to state my reasons for joining. Firstly, I love poetry, good reason to join you say, but reading is one thing, writing is another. Even in the later years of life one is never too old to learn, and learn I am. Since joining the sight I can feel a change in the way I view both writing and understanding the written word. Everyone Iv'e had contact with has been encouraging and helpful and I take guidance in all your comments. I enjoy going back and reading the poetry that has been submitted, sometimes I read them 2/3 times.Still got a LOT to read. The friendly banter that goes on here helps to bring a bit of humour to the day. You people are complete strangers to me, but I somehow feel I know you through your poetry and comments.Whenever I mention this sight to friends they say, 'never heard of it, will have to check it out' so I guess word of mouth is needed. A lot of people will stop and listen to a recital at a festival, it brings the words to life, but as for reading the written word, they show little interest. So stand up is maybe the way to go.

Hi Sue, while I agree that stand up seems to attract more people to poetry the written word lives on longer. I don't think Banjo is doing too much stand up these days.

Mind you with UTube that might change, but someone already said that not everyone is into computers.

A very good point Marty ( Warooa ) . I think it would be a good idea if our poets posting on the site did a bit of a self regulating and only posted one poem or piece a week (or something like that, more or less ) I don't think replies or discussion need to be reduced. I am finding that the amount of reading is getting a lot bigger and I miss a few exchanges because the sheer volume of reading gets ahead of my slow brain. If we spread it out a bit
, it gives time for better consideration and discussion of each post, I think.

By the way, back flow prevention is very important you know !!! :o

Hi Marty, Sue, Neville,
I know what you're saying it's near impossible for me to read everything posted so I don't try, I do feel a bit guilty at times although I realize there's no need to, but I wouldn't like to restrict anyone. Some poets just love to share their poems and I suspect the more prolific people aren't too fussed if they don't get lot's of replies.
I pop in whenever I have a moment but usually just for a minute or two and if I have the time I'll have a quick and often random read, or if a subject like this pops up that interest me I'll try to follow it, but even so you can quickly fall behind on certain ones and it's hard to catch up again.

Maureen, brilliant quote.

I agree with Leonie. I think on the old forum you could view but not post if you weren't registered. It could put people off just having a look because they have to register.

Sue, word of mouth is good. I have friends who want to read my poetry who probably didn't know anything about it before. And the local papers are often happy to print it so there is another outlet.

Heather :)

I read every post that goes up on the site. The only one's that I delay reading if I'm in a hurry are the yarns which can be a little long.

I find that it is only a matter of planning, as my old boss used to say everyone in the world has the same amount of time it is just that some know how to use it more productively than others.

It helps that I have no social life other then poetry as well.
