Did you not find the characters a bit corney Vic.

I described it as a bit like Paul Hogan humour ???

The workers on big projects now-a-days mostly fly in and fly out, live in luxury accomodation and would barely get their fingernails dirty ... :)

If they had to work without airconditioning and gourmet meals, I'm sure they would soon feel 'flushed' and may even faint from the heat - poor darlings ... :D

Although my son does fifo to Port Headland i still do not agree with the practice in a lot of cases.

I spent many six years in The Moura Theodore area and made many a lifelong friend mainly because the town was a good mix on what we called Coal and Country.

These smaller towns like Middlemount, Tieri ect need families to keep them alive.

No Bob, I didn't really find the characters as corny as they could have been if the story had been handled less skillfully. I agree it did tend to drag a bit in the middle.
As for realism the movie was supposed to be set in the early seventies so I thought it was fairly accurate.
Have to agree that the ending didn't really make a lot of sense but I wouldn't have noticed without Maureen's warning. Could have easily been so much better.
Thing that comes out of though is that people are flocking to see the movie which indicates to me that people will pay to see something approaching good quality. I don't think it deserves the four stars it is receiving in the reviews but it is a whole lot better than the other rubbish coming out of Hollywood these days.
This is a record breaking year for me. I have been to the pictures three times and it is a long time since I have done that!
