Re: Introducing!!
Congratulations Heather, you're in for a wonderful time! The little one will call you whatever she/he wants to. My first grand-daughter took me by the hand one day and said, "Well, Nelerie .... " and I knew that was it. Been Nelerie for years and years and now they're all growing up they're changing it to Nan or Nanny or pretty much whatever they feel is more adult and sophisticated. As I'm neither I would like all of them to keep calling me Nelerie forever.
Best wishes, Nelerie

Re: Introducing!!
Heather is prolific in Burren in Ireland or perhaps Eire would suit.

Thanks Stephen and Nelerie! It is exciting and good to know it has all the bits it is supposed to. All fingers and toes accounted for - I remember the first thing we did was count fingers and toes! I went to the ultrasound today (been to two) and they found out the sex of the baby but kicked us out for that bit. We get told tomorrow..I'd rather not know really but they want to tell..

Re: Introducing!!
Congratulations Heather.
It's much easier being Grandma than Mum. Why are you worried about what the child will call you? They often make up their own word/name. (as long as it's not Grumpy!) The baby will love you no matter what he/she ends up calling you. I still love the Italian 'Nonna' but then - many people associate 'Nonna' with the whole long, black, shapeless dress and scarf image. I was going to be Grannie but changed my mind. I didn't ever want to be Nanna. I don't like 'Nanna'. Yes, I like being Grandma. Wayne didn't like Grandpa so he is just 'Pa'. All the little ones start out calling me 'gammah' but we correct them often til they get it right. Maybe you should explore all the foreign versions you can find.

Re: Introducing!!
Hey Cobber Bob was on the right track, your Heather and heather is scotish so.
Heather, the name most commonly used for this plant, is of Scottish origin, presumably derived from the Scots word HAEDDRE. Haeddre has been recorded as far back as the fourteenth century,
The origination however is obscure, and the variations are many. Hader is found in Old Scottish from 1399, heddir from 1410, hathar from 1597 (although this form of the word may also be seen in place names dating back to 1094) and finally heather from 1584.
Scots translation.
Gandpa = Seanair (pronounced 'Shen-ar')
Grandma = Seanmhair (prounounced 'Shen-a-var')
Try some of these.
