If you're going into battle Zondrae, you need to know what the enemy looks like.

It's not the elected people who have to face the voters who make these "rationalisation " decisions.
The people who wrote " Yes Minister " understood that so well.

The squeeking wheel always gets the oil - sometimes it has to squeek for a long time - but the squeeking wheel always gets the oil.

They just hope it all gets to hard Heather I read some of the history of the pub. hey you write a petty good speach.

Keep on their back or it will just be forgotten. Our local council wanted to convert our Customs House into office space to give them more room but met with so many objectors that they utilised store rooms out the back which needed a lot of work anyway.

Once it's gone it is gone forever.

Just had a squis on the internet when you mentioned the Kilmore Hotel I love that sort of stuff and hate to see old buildings vandalised just for convience. I still have photos of the old Denham brothers delivery trucks and buildings in Quay street in Rocky that were going in the bin before i saved them. Not to mention my old delivery bike, you know the ones with the carrier on the front ( great for bringing a carton home from the pub) Gonna paint it yellow and ride it in this years pineapple festival.

With or without a pineapple? Do make sure you get the colour co ordination right Bob - it is sooooooo important

Maybe you could put a sign on the side that said Heritage listed or something inspirational like 'get on ya bike'

I didn't realise I'd done a speech on the hotel. I'll have to go and have a look myself. You'd love this hotel Bob - it's the Red Lion and dates to before 1856. I can find a reference to it in 1855 and know it wasn't there in 1851 but it makes sense that it was built during the gold rush - possibly some time in 1852. It has a very interesting history. Hotels are my special research topic - I've done about 10 years research on the Kilmore hotels. They have such an interesting history and were very important to the towns as meeting places - for Ag society, football clubs, Masonic lodge, etc; gathering places (for the mail and coaches) and often the buildings are some of the largest in the town.

I'm not much of a drinker but I am fascinated by the social contribution made by the hotels and the publicans.

Funny thing this but I lived a block from the Red Lion Hotel In Rocky when I was a boy. After I got my dads bike when he retired i used to ride past it to school and I swear to this day the bike tried to turn in every time i rode past. had to ride it with my leg through the frame as i could not reach the pedals.

Thanks Heather a good read you are obviously pretty passionate about history.

Cheers Bob
