Would that have been the famous line 'Polly wants a cracker' by any chance John? or does it perhaps relate to the weeks housekeeping when after you've paid for the water and electricity you haven't got a cracker left :lol: No doubt a cracking good read is had by all who peruse Lawson but he doesn't crack one up as much as C.J. :lol:

Henry does it for me too. Passion personified - passionate about Australia, and passionate about Her people. A real 'true blue' Australian!

Jack Ellis--my old mate, Jack--
Ten years ago, from the Castlereagh,
We carried our swags together away
To the Never-Again, Out Back.

,
If this is your poem. Yes, A typical Lawson Mateship poem.

Ah, Maureen,

You like proddin n' pokin.

Remember the A N oymus poem at WD about the redback spider. :D
I reckon that was a cracker poem.

You still amaze me, Maureen. You can write a poem at a drop of a hat-hat-hat.

Okay. The subject is. 'Custard Pie.' But not so fast. He, He. Snigger, Snigger. :evil:

Hit me with a story about a custard pie in the ABPA members within seven days. :D

My very good poetry friend.

John.

G'day Manfred,

All the poets at ABPA, should take time and read the complete HL.

Do you know Henry wrote a poem about HMAS Sydney sinking the German cruiser Emden in the First World War.

A Mixed Battle Song

First Verse by Henry Lawson

Lo! the boat's tail is salted, and the Kangaroo's exalted.
And his right eye is extinquished by a man-o' warsman's cape;
He is flying round the fences where the Southern Sea commences,
And he's very much excited for a quiet of sort of chap.
For his ships have had a scrap and they've marked on the map,
Where the HMAS Sydney dropped across a German trap.
So the Kangaroo's a-chasing of his Blessed Self, and racing
From Cape York round to Leeuwin, from the coast of Nervertire;
And of him need no more said, save that to the tail aforesaid
Is the Blue Australian Ensign firmly fixed with copper wire.

And of him need no more said, save that to the tail aforesaid
Is the Blue Australian Ensign firmly fixed with copper wire.

Mate what a couplet to stir the soul. :D

Whoo, I feel so proud to be an Australian. Yes, ABP was a journalist, a war correspondent, an Editor, solicitor and poet. Yet all his poetry plays second fiddle to his great friend, HL.

Regards,

John
