Yeah. Thanks for that Tom. I just love making a dill of meself on the world wide web......
anyway.....what if ya happened to grab 2 black socks first up???? The minimum would be proven as 2! Aww. I think I'll shut up....this time.

I've been playing 'Lumosity' brain training games & they give you your assessment. When I looked at 'problem solving' it said I was 46%. I thought that was a bit crook. (and felt like I do now...deflated, confidenceless, & a general bloody dill.) Then I looked proper like & it was 46% higher capacity than the average for my age group!! I think I'll ask for a refund of my subscription. Oh yeah....I flatlined on 'logic'. Haveta work on that....oh dear.

Good fun Tom, anyway.

cheeers Glenny

Whoever thought this question up as a test for IQ, may not have as high a count themselves as they thought they did, the question as it is posed here demands that we guess or assume what the person asking means, it could be argued that the whole question is open to interpretation rather than logic and therefore becomes more of a game of chance or a lesson in English grammar, someone who is illiterate or doesn't have a great grasp on English could still have a high IQ!.....therefore the correct answer would be.... "2 for a normal sighted person under normal conditions making a conscious selection, or 3 for a blind person, a person in the dark or a person simply making a random selection".....oh yeah or a rugby player. ;)

Ross,

May I interpret your 'rugby' player as 'all football' players.?

If so, you have proven my theory.

Wot about my theory...hey, hey?? Blindfolded, ya just might pick a matching pair by chance...hey? That's 2.

Rossie...sweetheart...have a cuppa tea...meditate...the question said ya not allowed ta look.

What the whole thing proves to moi...is...we love to be right. (Sad ain't it?) Aww. I slept in. Maybe I shoulda waited 'til I thawed out.

I'll help you out folks. It's not about finding socks in a drawer, it's just a mind model of probability theory.

It's a mind game. A game played with models made from imagined things, beloved of the
so-called climate change " scientists " and the collectors of truckloads of useless survey data and statistics.

The exercise tells nothing about intelligence or lateral thinking, only about how some people have the aptitude to play with probability conundrums, and if they enjoy it, well go for it.

In the real world of finding socks, we just look in the drawer and make a choice.

Hate to make the losers feel bad, but when I used this as a question during IQ and Psychological evaluation during my years of working in Psychiatric hospitals, more got this answer correct than incorrect. Schizophrenics, Bipolars, etc. etc. Don't feel too bad, maybe it's because they were on medication or could google the readily available answer!!

Yeah Neil. And Schizophrenics have a very high level of creativity in many cases. What is 'normal' after all?

just their beliefs are true.

I don't believe I do! ... :D

There are no absolutes !! Is that right ?? ;)

What about the statement that there are no absolutes, isn't the statement itself an absolute statement.
If it's true then it can't be true. Wot ? :o

So Manfred, how do you validate your belief that some people only hold to baseless dogma, maybe your belief is baseless dogma as you might be one of those people. So where do we go from there ??? ummmm :)

" What is truth" Pilate asked. A good question, a VERY GOOD question. ;)
