Not so lucky

While Heather was able to post a success story about a rescued little bird we were in the paddock across the road holding a small funeral. I will explain.

About lunch time we heard two Magpies out the front of our house carolling to each other and went out to watch, as it was lightly raining we stayed on our front veranda to watch these two Maggies having fun calling to each other and playing chasey round the top of the power pole when one of them tried to land on the switch gear, yes there was a two loud bangs followed by lots of crackles and fizzes and our power went of for two hours. The sad thing was watching maggie number two sitting back and calling the mate who wasn't playing anymore.

So a small funeral in the paddock across the road.

Thats awful Dave, but in every cloud, etc.

Neil's Magpie Stew
Chef: Mick Malthouse

You need:
2 x magpies

Soy Sauce
Vinegar
1 Onion

2 Potatoes

2 Garlic cloves

2 knobs of Fresh Ginger

Method

Cut up as much meat as possible

• Cut up geese into cubes and marinate it in soy sauce and vinegar for the minimum of two hours. (Magpie are tough and this helps tenderize the meat). Save the carcasses..

• In camp oven throw in diced onion and potato, garlic, ginger and a cupful of water

• Toss in marinated geese pieces
Cook on fire until meat and potatoes are cooked threw

• While stew is simmering and cooking. Place the two magpie carcasses on a grill on the fire. These will cook before the stew and are a good snack when all crisp and crunchy

• Serve with boiled rice
