was busy over the weekend with my breeding herd of boar goats, last sunday i got my first baby billy and last friday sat and sunday my nannys had three sets of twins, ( seven in total ) out of four nannys. so iam fairly pleased at the moment, and we had a nice drop of rain over night.
they tell me i might have some trouble with foxes, but i have three steers running with the herd, and they chase the stray cats away, so i think they will do the same with a fox!
the nannys are good mothers at this stage and seem to be coping ok with their twins, iam feeding them twice daily with lucurne hay and pellets. and the kidd goats are fairly active.

Do hope you are breeding Boer Goats Duncan and not some heinous cross between goats and male feral pigs . Have you got them fence trained? If not hope you have got good high fences as they are buggers for getting out.

One of our neighbours lost 140 and never did find them - they popped up here and there over the years on other properties.

Maremma dogs are great for keeping ferals away and will actually bond with the goats or whatever stock they are put with they are marvellous dogs but not designed for human companionship they are herd guardian dogs, and old Italian breed - if you haven't heard of them or don't know about them go and have a look on Google - they are expensive but worth every cent especially if you are on a small hobby farm type of property. and Alpacas will keep any dog away including your own - they are also terrific guard animals. Don't know where you are but wild pigs will also have a go at them - if in doubt I would lock them away at least at night time.

That's a pretty good birthing rate Mate well done hope the little kids do well. Always liked the Boers they have such beautiful markings and such sweet faces.

g'day Maureen, yes there pure bred boar goats, and they are pretty well trained to stay around! sometimes they get into the neighbours block. my paddock backs onto a wilga scrub hill, and the goats love wilga leaves. but thats ok i know where to find them. they know where home is.!
