MYSTERY VIEWERS

Was wondering if someone can explain why some of the poems posted in either of the designated sections gain hundreds of "views" while others only attract a much smaller number of "Viewers?" I mean it seems that there are only a small number of us who regularly post here yet some poems are viewed by hundreds of (I presume different) people.
Who are these people and why do hundreds of them view some poems and not other works? How do they make their selection without reading all of the poems?
More importantly I suppose is why are we not drawing comments and posts from these mysterious viewers?

We can only assume that most of the viewers are women and I've given up trying to undserstand them !!!

Seriously though this was the point I was trying to make when we had the discussion about posting in either the members or users poetry section. Do we really gain any new members or are most just content to be observers.

Vic, I would only assume that thoses with views in the hundreds (or more) are poems with numerous pages of replies and the subsequent 'views' are those of us checking out the line of replies rather than repeat viewings of the initial poem?

Certainly would account for some of the numbers Marty but not completely.
Still think there are a large number of people looking but not talking and wonder why.
I have heard varying estimates of how many people are members of the ABPA at the moment some put it at 200 hundred while others say 400 hundred but the fact is we have nowhere near enough of those members posting and participating here.
Just reconsidering that last statement and realising that not all of the members are actually poets so perhaps we might have to think about encouraging more comment from the non poet segment of our association to liven this site up a bit.
We may have to encourage a broader outlook.

morning all,

I agree with Vic about hearing from the non-writers. Sometimes I hold back a poem because I know it is not technically correct. There are some good 'stories' in some of these. If we had some folk who love reading or hearing poetry, who could give a 'non-writers' comment sometimes, it may be a good thing.

I hope I am learning the difference between a good performance piece and a good written piece, but still, I would like input on occasion.

Also about the numbers of views. I think every time someone looks at a poem, or its thread, it tallys. I often (these days) will pop in to almost everythng but comment on only one or two. On occasion, even if I havent read all the poem, I might go to the end of the thread and have a look at what is being said. Also, if I post something, I may look at it more than a dozen times a day, for the first couple of days.
If I look at one poem 10 times a day, that counts as 10 views. Hence, if you have 10 people looking 10 times....... etc.

I think a big percentage of that is when you are Googling something. For example if you went into Google and were looking for Sheep in the Stanthorpe area chances are good it would throw up a few of mine and then people look to see if it has the info they require. Ditto if you went looking for anything Miniature horses would know doubt somewhere throw up any of Kyms that had the wording, anybody querying anything to do with Laggan would pull up some of Marty's etc etc. They just click on them which scores a count realize it is not what they are looking for and go to the next on the list.

If you write a poem with a common word that is often sourced the more hits it will show. Anything with Australia in it for example would show pretty high I would think. Anzacs would be another, and so on.

If you keyed in for example Border Collies at Stanthorpe it will throw up on page 4 my poem 'I am Kambuwul' because that poem has mention within it of Stanthorpe and Border Collies

Cheers

Maureen
