ABPA - Australian Bush Poets Association

I hear that a new suburb is being built in Canberra. It's name will be Wright, which I assume is a reference to the Australian poet Judith Wright, as all the streets in this new suburb will be named after Australian poets.
I will be interested to see what names are chosen, I wonder how many bush poets will get a mention? Vijars Crescent has a very elegant style, don't you think ?

Who do we have to bribe to get our names mentioned.. Neville Street sounds fine. I'd like a parade if I had the choice. Zondrae Parade.. (sounds a bit like a comand though) Oh well, I can dream.
How about Glenny Grove, or Ellis Campbell Avenue how about Frank Daniel Road. (Joe wouldn't like anything fancy and 'Road' would attest to this) and Carol Crescent. (this could cover several Carols.) I don't like my chances but there are lots of illustrious names that spring to mind. Oh a good one would be Charlee Marshall Parade.
Gilmore Grove - McKellar Avenue - Lawson Lane (although in order to honour Henry's mother it should also have her first name)

I guess I should go and look up some of the other older lady poets. I admit my lack of knowledge.... I'll go now

Would be (actually are) more pertinent than pommy colonial names.

Zondrae what about Dorothea McKellar, Dame Mary Gilmore and Mary Durack? You and the other ladies should make yourselves familiar with: Zora Cross; Mary Hannah Foott; Dora Wilcox and of course Alice Werner. (Emily Mary Barton was The Banjo's grandma if I am not mistaken.)

Sadly folks, I think we all know that bush poets get little recognition in the wider world of Art. Henry Lawson, Banjo Paterson, and Dame Mary Gilmore made it to the banknotes, so they might have a chance of inclusion. . otherwise hmmmm... we shall see.

I found her while looking for a poem I could use when it was my turn to present the “Reading from the classics” at our muster in Perth the poem I found was “Easter rain on the Bogan” by Emily Mary Barton.
