and,

Just to have the record straight.. I have written two other poems, that I did not post, and also begun a complete catelogue of all the poems I have written (and kept). Not in alphaetical order though. I'm about to go to see my son in law and ask all those little IT questions I have been saving up. All since 'National Post a Poem Week' was declared.

.. And I'm delighted to see, Kym is not taking offence. You know I am only joking about the horses....

POST A POEM WEEK (For Bob)
© John Peel 24/7/2011

I read online it’s post a poem week –
I’ve been busy, so I haven’t got one done.
That’s working earning income so to speak
and not just being out there having fun.
If only I had had a bit more time,
I’d have done a better job than this small rhyme!

Thank you very much to all who participated. Some old poems but mostly new one's and just maybe it helped someone to shed that mental block that we sometimes get.

19 poems submitted by my reckoning not a bad effort.

Cheers Bob

Should we try for Limericks this week ?????

Ah Bob, the limerick…so often maligned, but there’s probably no better training ground for playing around with rhythm and rhyme. One interesting challenge is to come up with limericks about places in Australia. Below, originating from a task I set myself several years ago to write 100 of the damn things, are three examples. What about the other 97? Let’s just say that the censor’s red pen would probably have to work overtime. (Note: the limerick is one verse form where a capital letter at the beginning of each line is OK…just the way it’s done.)

To an Englishman up in Mackay
Joe said ‘Didja come ’ere to die?’
Perplexed, he said ‘No.’
‘No worries!’ cried Joe,
‘I guess ya got ’ere yesterdie!’

Ned Kelly, he came from Glenrowan,
But if ever up that way you’re gowan,
You won’t see old Ned;
He’s really quite dead,
Though his exploits are fairly well knowan.

There’s a furnace they call Marble Bar
Way out west where the red deserts are.
Believe it or not,
It’s so bloody hot
That the blowies wear thongs…har har har!

David Campbell Thank you. I love limericks (I love poetry too but have such trouble getting them to work)

One from when we found out our granddaughter was having her baby.

There was a young fellow called Cam
He did get our Cass in a jam
It’s a good thing they are wed
So no more would be said
But soon they’ll be pushing a pram.

TTFN 8-)
PS
It's a place I know well Marble Bar
The Iron Clad hotel's not that far
And you’re not talking rot
The floors so bloody hot
Even the blowies wear thongs in the bar.

Sorry David I just could'nt help myself.
I really have spent quite a bit of time in Marble Bar.

Dave.
