Speaking of Bright and Harrietville - here are a couple of pics of the area.
The Buckland Valley cemetery. An anti-Chinese riot took place in the Buckland Valley in 1857. There is a Chinese cemetery near here.

I think the pink tree is a Dogwood and they are everywhere in Bright and Harrietville. I think they like the cold. Gorgeous place..

Sorry, my mistake. I think the town you can see in the photo is Porepunkah. Bright is further along the valley in amongst the hills.

Porepunkah. Great name isn't it? It sits on the Ovens River - the most beautiful (cold) little stream you can imagine, full of smooth, round stones, ducks and lined with willows in places (they're a weed and they are pulling them out). You turn off at Porepunkah to go to Bright - it's about a further 9km. It is a tiny little place, very touristy - in that it has quite a few motels and caravan parks to cater for the snow trade and in the summer there are a lot of holiday makers. Nearby is the Buckland Valley (nothing there really) and Mt. Buffalo. I quite like Porepunkah. It has some gorgeous gardens, a fantastic pub - well it was a great place for a meal when I was there in October 2008, and that's about it really. I wouldn't want to live in Bright, pretty as it is, because it is a death trap in my opinion should there be a fire. It is neslted in a narrow valley with pine plantations on the hills either side.
In autum there is an Autumn Festival in Bright and the colours of the decidious trees are to die for. The paragliders and gliders jump off the cliffs of Mt. Buffalo and you can often see them circling above Bright.
Geez I should work for the Bright tourist bureau.

(Except for the fire bit, they wouldn't like that!)

It certainly is a beautiful place. Much greeneer than up here in dry old CQ, hey Heather? Are we still going on our adventure to the jail Thursday 15th? Frank isn't sure if he'll be coming with me or not (depending on work) so what other mischief can we get up to Friday and Saturday?
