I'm sitting in the Brisbane airport, can't hear anything other than buzzing in my ears cos I've got a head cold now (Melbourne people germs). Home soon, yay. It's been a long day.

Airport Blues

I was standing on the footpath
that cold wind sure has some pluck.
My lift was running late again
that's just my bloody luck.

The controller in his floro vest
was wandering up and down.
"Oh don't park there mate " He muttered
Gee's what a bloody clown!

People rushing too and fro
who knows what is their fate.
Staring straight into the distance
gotta hurry, can't be late.

That fella with the brow ring
the lady with the funny hat,
in all shapes and sizes did they come
short and skinny, tall and fat.

I wonder what they think of
or what's behind that vacant stare.
They seem set on auto pilot
but I really wonder if they care.

I smile and try to say hello
but they just gaze straight ahead.
No nod or wink comes in return
I might as well be dead.

Now if I was out in Winton
Or Longreach for the day.
I would not walk anywhere ya know
and someone would shout gidday!

But this is not the outback
no this is the city push.
They don't have time to stop and chat
like the folk out in the bush.

Yes that's the way here in the city
there is not a hint of soul.
Get me out and home again
before it takes its toll.

I suppose somewhere there's family
who they love and cherish too;
But they shut out all around them
as they gaze out into the blue.

Yes although the cities nice to visit
just for a day or maybe more.
Take me back to where the gum trees sway
or some sandy northern shore.

Where people stop and say hello
when their shoulders do you rub.
you can always have a joke or two
with the next guy in the pub.

So as they bustle and they hurry
like a bee that's just a drone.
I'll head on back on up to the coast
cause that's the place that I call home.

Well, I spent the whole day either on a train or waiting for a train! Went to Melbourne this morning by train to go to the Lawson meeting - really looking forward to the talk.

The train going down was caught for 1/2 hour just out of the city because of a signalling fault. No great drama. Finally, get to the city about 12.30 and I wasn't feeling too swell and decided that I'd best go back home - quick smart. Next train 1.57pm

Waited, waited, waited on platform 1.

Announcment - move to platform 8. So, up we all patiently traipze to platform 8 still expecting to catch the 1.57 train.

Announcement - no trains in or out of the station because of signalling fault! Wait for an hour or so.

Announcment - please remove to platform 14! Up and over the big bridge to the furtherest platform to platform 1. By now we've all had a complete tour of the Southern Cross Station and know every individual platform by first name. Finally, 3.13pm and we are allowed to board a train home - event free and on time!

So, missed the talk, wasted a whole day and Kym, who flew home to Rockhampton and had to catch two flights - beat me home! There's some irony, or a joke in that somewhere!

I think I like Marty's day better than mine. :(

Beautiful weather today, 25deg, so spent the day in the garden, mowing and weeding, then scrubbed and oiled the deck, all looking good for summer. Might have a BBQ for lunch tomorrow.
Been managing the caravan park all week, so I think tomorrow might be all about me. Hubbys leading a 20km bushwalk, so a day on my own writing is just what the Doctor ordered. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend. :D :D
