Does anyone here have any idea about old cars? I'm trying to date a photo for a forthcoming history book and the only thing dateable in the photo is the vehicles - possibly late 1920s or early 1930s..

Google is your friend - go to vintage cars or maybe classic cars images and you might be able to match them up - or you could try putting in eg Ford cars 1920 to 1940 - the good thing about way back then was that their weren't many makes of cars on the road

If they are Australian photos try Australian cars 1920 to 1940 otherwise you get all the American ones coming up

Thanks Maureen.

The trouble is the cars are in the distance and it's going to be more the shape of the car than the brand. I've been using google to try and date some pre WW1 clothing in another photo. It's a tricky business - but so much fun!

I'm trying to date about 20 photos - some back in the 1860s and to do that I have to use the business names on the buildings (if I can read them) and match that up with all the historical notes I've compiled over the years. It's kind of like a jig saw puzzle really. Sometimes the 1860s buildings have writing on them but it is not possible to read it - so frustrating! Keeps me out of trouble.
