One of my earliest memories of Qld is camping by the road side near Bowen and lying awake after a rain storm listening to the sound of popping toads over the road trains exhaust brakes
As for daylight saving . . .
For far too long us Queenslanders;
we’ve been the laughing stock,
for southern folk to look up north
to find someone to mock.
There’s cane-field toads,
and Joh and Flo’s corrupt white-collar crime.
And then you laughed cos we said “no”
to daylight saving time.
But us Banana Benders
got the whole she-bang worked out -
we know your daylight saving
is a major cause of drought.
Cos we don’t need no PhD
or science on our side,
to work out extra daylight hours’ll
leave you parched and dried.
Just do the maths:
for six months of the hottest time of year
you get an extra hour of sun and
you think we’re bloody queer!
And you blame our cotton farmers
cos your Darling’s runnin’ dry.
But we know all that toolin’
with ya clocks’ the reason why.
So stick ya daylight saving time
and your extra sunny hour.
