Magpie Mania

Post by Terry » Sat Dec 19, 2015 2:36 pm

Stephen's Heading 'MAGGIE' reminded me of a Magpie story.

Magpie Mania

My wife Valma tells a story of when she was a young girl and they had a pet Maggie.
It had apparently been injured or something so the family nursed it back to health.
It was never kept in a cage but just hung around with the kids outside – there were 9 of them.
For some reason it took a dislike to her and often used to swoop her.

One day they were playing cricket out on the gravel road and it swooped her while she was batting and by pure instinct she swiped at it with the bat and laid it out;
they thought it was dead and the rest of the kids gave Val a real hard time over it.

The story has a happy ending, the Maggie made a full recovery and continued to swoop Valma at every opportunity.

Cheers Terry

It went like one that hath been stunned,
And is of sense forlorn;
A sadder and a wiser maggie,
Rose the morrow morn.
