The old Bill
Today is the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare at Stratford-on-Avon.
And after all that time, his poetry still has influence.
Matt will be pleased to know that Paul Kelly will be performing at the Atheneum this morning items derived from Shakespearean sonnets. Paul Kelly has made an album called "Seven Sonnets and a Song" and Rufus Wainwright done "Take All my Loves - Shakespeare".
Will Rufus Wainwright and Paul Kelly be remembered in 400 years time. Probably not.

Re: The old Bill
I posted a reply early this morning - wonder what happened to it?
(may as well post it again)
"you really have your finger on the artistic pulse these days Neville"
Sounded alright when I first posed it.

Re: The old Bill
G'day Matt. Paul K was featured on the ABC Radio National Music Show this morning singing his sonnets.
I heard it in the car.
You would think it is not that easy to forget someone with a name like Rufus Wainwright.
G'day Terry. Someone has said somewhere that if we are to be poets we have to be curious about everything.
And further, I found in the Weekend Australian newspaper ( p20 Review ) a sonnet by Suzanne Edgar which is a parody of Shakespeare's famous sonnet no. 130 ( My Mistres eyes are nothing like the sunne )
Suzanne Edgar's sonnet is very witty, she is one of my favourite Australian poets.

Re: The old Bill
Apparently Norma Jean's most memorable song was Happy Birthday Mr President.
