Learning

Post by Wendy Seddon » Mon Jul 30, 2018 8:58 am

My graddaughter is in kindy and learning to read....

Leah: Bake, oh that's got a bossy e, it makes the vowell
say its own name. But it's bossy so we don't say its name.

Boat, oh yes....when two vowells go out walking,
it's the first that does the talking.

I am teaching her to knit.
"In throught the front door, run around the back,
Slip throught the window, off goes Jack."

I remember learning through these types of rhyme.
Do you?

Hi Wendy

I remember the knitting rhyme - but I have to say I didn't learn any of the reading rhymes when I went to school. Would have been very helpful, that's for sure!

The only one I remember is "i before e, except after c", in spelling class.

Cheers

I'm with Shelley - never heard those first 2 hints at school either and to my ear they sound a tad Americanized so perhaps they came long after Shelley and I had learnt to read
