G/Day All

Post by Dave Smith » Fri Nov 05, 2010 9:33 pm

Hi All I’m Dave Smith
I am just a retired working man with a bus load of kids, grandkids and great grandkids, I learnt Australian Bush Poetry at my Mothers knee side i.e. Banjo, Henry, John O’Brien and the like, reading poetry and reciting for other folks is what I like to do and am now having a shot at writing some. I have had no formal training in English or writing but with lots of help I just might make it.

My other hobbies include carpentry so with an old cruiser and caravan we head north in the cold months and work as volunteers for the forest dept restoring old homesteads and out buildings on stations now under their care. Some time we are just grey nomads and follow the sun.

How many poets does it take to fix an old homestead?
One to write about the pioneers now long-since dead;
One to write about the many trials they had to face,
recorded on the headstones on the rise behind the place;

One to write about the beauty of the outback scene;
One to write about the smell of lye and kerosene;
One to write about the future bright the home might see;
and one to hunt old bottles, a 'collector'...hey! That's me!

I'm green with envy mate. :mrgreen:

Cheers, Will.

has something funny in his head..." CJD

Dave, I've got an old historical dunny out the back that needs 'restoring' - preferably into a tool shed with an attached granny-flat ... when can you come over? :D
