Wild winds in the lead-up to the 2016 Toolangi C. J. Dennis Poetry Festival put the festival at risk. Eventually it did proceed successfully, thanks to the effort of the owners of "The Singing Gardens", the Williams family.

Here is an example of the damage. This massive mountain ash fell across the pump house, destroying it completely. In addition to breaking all the pumps inside, it also ruined a fridge and 100 plastic chairs.

Nine trees fell in total, wreaking all sorts of havoc around the property. There are still some trees that have not yet fallen, but are looking very unstable.

It is such a shame to see this damage in the beautiful Singing Gardens - well done to all in making sure the festival still went ahead.

How did the copper beech fare?

The copper beech was grazed by a falling tree, but no harm done.

It was singed during the bush fires back in 2009, but no major harm was done then, either.

So far, so good. (Touch wood!)
