Mrs Dennis' wash house

Although the gardens that C. J. Dennis and his wife planted on their property in Toolangi remain in superb condition, the house burnt down in 1961.

Fortunately, there is still one original building remaining on the property - Mrs. Dennis' wash house. Apparently, Monday was the traditional washing day in Toolangi back then. The story goes, however, that Mrs. Dennis broke with convention and washed whenever she wanted to. The locals could always tell when Mrs Dennis was using the wash house, because she would fire her gun to scare away the snakes...

Good on Biddy! I like her style of "non-conformance" on Official Washing Day! ;)

We've got a few snakes around here at the moment with the weather warming up ... but thankfully, not in my "wash house" (or not yet, anyway!!)

Cheers
