ABC Radio Far North Queensland in conjunction with the Cairns Show Society are running their annual Bush Poetry competition again. It kicks off next week and runs until The Cairns Show in mid-July, every week a weekly winner is chosen who is then in contention for the final.
It's a very popular competition and they encourage enteries from all over. Quite a few members of this forum have sent poems in previously that have been very well recieved (I think Irene Connor won the comp a few years ago). In the half-hour weekly segment quite a few of the best weekly poems are read and discussed by the judges (starting next week each Wednesday at 10.30).
Anyone interested can email poems to Fiona Sewell at
farnorth@your.abc.net.au
Cheers, Marty

Ya don't have to be up here, Jim

Either email your poems to the address above or post them to PO Box 932, Cairns, 4870 or even fax to (07) 4044 2099.
Entry is free and the only stipulation is that the poem can be read inside 3 minutes.
Cheers, Marty
ps. Oh . . . and this year 'yours truly' is part of the judging panel

				Hi Marty
I was just wondering a week or two ago when this comp came up again!
I have been really slack in entering comps over the last 2-3yrs - I think I have only entered one. Time seems to get away too quickly, and I miss the deadline, or more usual, the inspiration just doesn't flow!!
But must get back to it one day, and might as well try starting with this one (hopefully!!

 )
I was lucky enough to win this comp the first year it was run, along with a weekly prize for another poem. Back then, the 1st prize was $500 and a beautiful trophy, so it was a great boost to my confidence when I was fairly new to writing!!
Have fun judging!! I guess this is one competition where we need to be particular about not entering a poem that has been posted on this website?!?!

  You might recognize it!!
Catchya
Irene

Can not see where being posted on the website is a problem ??/
Rules are simple it has to rhyme and be able to be read in three minutes.
Nothing about meter so it suits me fine.

Nah that's right Bobbit . . . us Far North Queenslanders don't get mired down in rules and regulations - I can still go to me local pub barefoot

But seriously, it aint a problem if it's something that's been posted on here. I mightn't of read it, and if I have I'll know if it's any good without reading it again

Good luck
Marty

				G/day Marty,
What are the rules regarding poems that have won minor awards other that 1st place in a comp.
Do you enter one poem or can you enter a couple.
Cheers mate, hope it goes well.
Terry
