RAINBOW WINGS

Thought I might set this free here as it is doing rather well on another site - even if I did write it originally as a quick throw away verse in response to one of Neville's comments  As poets we often mourn the fact that there are no rhymes for orange and purple .... but who needs them

RAINBOW WINGS ... Maureen Clifford © The ScribblyBark Poet
Lorikeet Gum.jpg
Soft
breast feathers
coloured bright orange
bleeding into a throat
of brilliant blue shadowed with
purple and he watched with intelligent
red eyes as others performed aerial gymnastics
overhead ....then unimpressed by their low level passes
and kaleidoscopic display he daintily lowered his
head to the crimson blossom with
its dew drops of nectar,
a questing red beak
thrust into blossom
greedily, eagerly
supped.

I really like this Maureen - especially the way the words zero in towards the end. Having "supped" as a line on its own really brings the poem to a calm ending.

Cheers

Thank you Shelley - I hadn't considered that but I think it a good observation :D
