Another Bush Track. A Sonnet.

Must admit, I struggled with this rhyme pattern a bit, certainly a bit more to them than meets the eye.

Another Bush Track.
© Ron Boughton. 7/10/21

A bush track luring, meandering on,
Through towering blue gums and native brush
Of greenery, in such abundance lush,
Where each bend signals; what does beckon yon
Come see around this turn before you’ve gone,
So hastening my pace, though do not rush
As birdlife, from shadows, my footsteps flush,
And scurry to where dimmest light is shone.

What does await the next corner to view!
But really, I should think of changing tack,
For afternoon reflects a changing hue
As darkened shadows fall across the track,
And many times caught out, though such is true,
Just One more corner ...and I might turn back.

Well done Ron

I haven't been game enough to venture beyond the Shakespearean sonnets myself.

I really like the line, 'As bird-life from shadows my footsteps flush'

Thanks Terry

Yes mate I think I might drift across to the Shakespeare side of it myself!
As you have said previously, they can get you in.

Oh, well done, Ron! A Petrarchan achieved!

They are harder than they look, aren't they?

Cheers

Thank you Shelley,
Yes they certainly make the grey matter dig deep.

Well you did it and very nicely done as well Ron - I enjoyed the read, and yes they are indeed a lot more difficult than one thinks. Therein lies the challenge

Yes, I agree with the others - very nicely done, Ron. I'm with Terry on that particular line, too. This is very atmospheric and the scene is easily pictured.

Thank you Catherine, much appreciated. Re that line, we have a beautiful blue gum reserve a stones throw from us and the birdlife line, actually happened when on a walk there. I had the poem half written and needless to say, when I returned home I finished it!
Pleased that you enjoyed it,
Ron
