Christmas Decorations

Post by Zondrae » Tue Jul 19, 2011 9:06 am

This was prompted by coming across some photos we took when Matilda was two and a half and wanted to help decotate my tree. Lovely moments of three generations digging through the box of decorations
If someone can pm me clear directions of how to resize and post the photo I'll give it another try. I have tried before but so far I have not been able to succeed with putting photos up.

Christmas Decorations

“Oh! can I help you, Grandma?” I heard our Matilda say.
It’s getting close to Christmas and I find that, in a way,
it’s little ones who give us all the will to carry on
in times when we are weary and our energy is gone.

The time is here. Out comes the tree and ornaments of old
all packed away year after year, such memories they hold.
It takes so long to get them out. Each one holds mem’ries dear
That’s why they’re wrapped so carefully and kept from year to year.

Now this one, I hung as a child, a real treasure true.
It started out as one of six but now it’s one of two.
Its felt has long been faded but I see that little elf
as bright as when I first saw him, still new, on DJs shelf.

And Deep down in the bottom of the trusty storage chest
are some that I no longer need to hang with all the rest.
Some stars we drew and coloured in that year we were so poor,
a time when I thought Santa and his sleigh would pass our door.

Though we had little money we could make do if we planned.
We painted up a kiddies bike that we got seventh hand.
Some brand new stickers made it look, to our small child at least,
just like a famous, really wanted brand they call ‘The Beast’.

Some paper chain around our tree and pop corn on a string.
Remember Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ our king.
Our children were so happy with such simple things back then
some lollies and a picture book, a puzzle and a pen.

I’ve added many ornaments and treasures through the years.
I find that some are wrapped with laughter, some are filled with tears.
There’s just one decoration that I hope I always see,
a happy family gathering around my Christmas tree.

I quickly took some photos as we shared this special day
to add to other Christmas treasures that we pack away.
I hope that one day she’ll look back as Christmases unfold
on Christmas decorations and the memories they hold.

if you open your picture with Microsoft Picture Manager or whatever program you are using and then go to edit pictures it should allow you to resize your photo...I use the web small 448 x 336 pixel size which is handy for emails as well.

If using Windows Live Photo Gallery go into Edit then click onto the organize tab and the third little icon will open up the resize program where you can key in the size you require Once you save that size you should then be able to download it here by following the prompts

Hope that helps

Cheers

Maureen

Good one Zondrae, one we can all relate to I suspect. We too, have a bag of decorations that contain bits and pieces that we've held on to through the years, pieces that should probably be discarded but one just can't bring themselves to dispose of. Children are certainly the highlight of xmas at our place.
Enjoyed the read and the rekindling of memories.

I'll try some simple Mac tricks .

Click and drag from desktop didn't work I'll try copy and paste.
000_0223.jpg Yes that's the file but where is the photo. so sending it to myself to make it smaller in an email and copy and paste didn't work.

OK I give up again.

I used to use Picasa wen I had the pc. and it had a simple 'best for web' option.
I'll keep digging.

Hi Zondrae,
Your beautiful memories immortalized in rhyme for future generations.
Each generation takes their family's traditions of Christmas into the future as each ball and bauble is recognised.
Lovely verse for a Christmas card.

Zondrae with six sisters and one brother christmas was a very special time for our family. Mum was of course just that a housewife and mother. The preparation that must have went into the day we kids could never have imagined but the tree was the focal point. No store brought artificial things but a real tree even if it looked a bit ragged it always came up a treat woth all the home made decorations .

We made little angels from the old wodden cloths pegs and numerous trinkets from scraps of paper and cut outs of last years gift wrapping or magazine pictures. The final touch the placeing of the angel on top.

Thanks for the journey. You certainly have a way with words.

Oh never had chicken or ham all year until christmas and can still remember the poor old rooster going to his fate. Lots of tears there.

G'day Maureen,

I tried that one too. Doesn't work with MAC. I will ask my son in law next time I see him. He may know what to do. The problem is in resizing. I'll get it one day

hello Zondrae,

Are your photos in your computer Picture File?
If ,are they JPEGs?
I have a Mac, maybe I can be of use to you if you can follow these steps.

I open my Picture folder to VIEW the files AS ICONS, THUMBNAILS OR as my Mac calls, COVER FLOW.

1: OPEN YOUR PICTURE FILE

2: RIGHT CLICK THE FILE NAME > POINT TO "OPEN WITH" AND LEFT CLICK > PREVIEW.

In 'PREVIEW' across the top of the window/screen LOOK FOR TOOLS.

3: POINT AT "TOOLS" in the drop-down list >RIGHT CLICK ON ADJUST SIZE.

4: IN THE NEXT drop-down list, RIGHT CLICK on "OTHER" and choose the small size you
want to upload to the website .

5: if you do NOT have the "OTHER" IN THE LIST, LOOK for WIDTH AND HEIGHT.
SELECT/SWIPE THE LARGER NUMBER AND > TYPE 400.
THE SMALL NUMBER WILL CHANGE AUTOMATICALLY

6: Go to FILE and click SAVE AS NAME YOUR FILE but add 'SMALL' so you know which file to upload.

When you click on 'BROWSE' TO UPLOAD ATTACHMENT you can go to the picture file and select it.

NOTE: your picture does not appear until you CLICK on ADD THE FILE AND write your comment, AND THEN CLICK on SUBMIT.

If this does not help; do you have a program similar to Photoshop?
OR a Photo printing program?

If you like to send me a PM, maybe I help you further (it's what I happily do).
