His Girl

Post by Zondrae » Fri Jul 22, 2011 7:09 pm

Any place like Lightning Ridge is filled with people who have stories to tell. Some are believable, some not so.
This is one of them. The 'girl in question was 'picked up' at a Caltex Service station.

HIS GIRL
© Zondrae King ( Corrimal) 02/06
As he pulled into the road house
he saw her sitting there.
She’d been out in the rain that night
shown by her sodden hair.

With every car she’d stand and look
then sit back with a sigh.
She’d turn and search in each new group
track each car racing by.

“She been here long?” he asked the man
who pumped the petrol in.
“Since yesterday. Got dumped, I guess.
Rough treatment, seems a sin.”

He opened up his door for her
and offered her a ride.
No word was said, just jerked his head.
She settled by his side.

When he came home from work each day
he’d find her waiting there.
He would gently rub her shoulders
run fingers through her hair.

He could see devotion growing
deep in her big brown eyes.
She didn’t whine or make demands.
She couldn’t tell him lies.

He bought a silver chain for her
to show her that he cared.
A medallion too and on it
the address that they now shared.

He fastened it around her neck
and whispered in her ear.
“If you be true, I’ll care you
you’ll never have to fear.”

He cried the day she left him
Their parting made him sad.
She’d been so true. He called her ‘Blue’.
Best dog he ever had.

Well Marty,

That is the idea I thought. Post poetry for the world to read. (and the bit about the most posts) No I don't want to have the most... I used to, but now Heather and Maureen leave me for dead. Blame it on the Ukulele revival.

Might leave you for dead in the numbers Zondrae but you leave me for dead in the writing department. Half way through I picked the dog but was thinking a Golden Retriever - was getting a strong image of a Goldie and needless to say I love this - even if it is a two hankie job.

Cheers

Maureen

G'day again all,

Ah yes. But there is always one that brakes the rules. She was Miss Super Dog. The family legendary pet. A true Lady and one of the best pig dogs (working with a boof head male ). Her pups were so sought after that we could have sold 20 but she only used to have six or seven, twice. -- We picked her up at a service staton on a rainy Friday night. She had been abandoned about a week before and looked so sorry for herself. The service station bloke said he was ging to shoot her if someone didn't take her by the Sunday night.

Don't you just hate people that do that....glad you took her and loved her Zondrae - she deserved no less and obviously served you well whilst she was with you - what did you call her?

G'day Maureen,

Well there is only one name for an Aussie legend..... part wolf hound (or some whiskery terrier) part aussie heeler. She was that lovely grey/blue colour with cream/white undersides. She had such a lovely whiskery face. What else would you call her.. BLUE of course. Her photo is in a couple of my books along with the poem. and when she was very good she was called Blue Bow.

G'day Zondrae,

Your poems are picture book fine, with or without the graphics.
Your rhythms are always a dance in the rain.

Hmmm, that service station bloke might find HIMSELF in need of a home one day, too!

Of course you would Bob - why should a much loved pet be any different to a much loved child?

Our Irish Wolfhound/Staghound cross was a great pigger as well - I hate using dogs for pigging. Khadizia was killed by a pig but our Sammy was a hell of a smart dog and always bailed them until we could get to them for a killing shot - she also saved Khadizias life (silly city dog) when a big buck roo picked her up and was about to kill her, Sammy got it by the tail and flicked it, he let Caddy go, came back at Sam and bit her on the ear but she headed him off. Sadly Sammy died from a cancerous growth on the jaw which was starting to block her windpipe and we had to put her down...had she still been there I doubt Kahadizia would have been killed. We called Khadizia, Sam and Jessie Belle the 3 musketeers. They are all at Springdale waiting for me.
