I've had visitors since christmas day, and the last of them left yesterday. My son, with his partner and daughter have been here for a week and a half, and it has been an absolute delight having Lila to come home to after work, and to hear her chatting away in the morning (did I say chatting????? I think it was a lot louder than than most the time!!! )
When I got home last night, it felt so strange to hear the quiet - and a little sad!!
I bet all you Nanas can relate to this!!
After Their Departure
Irene Conner 05.01.12
The house is strangely silent tonight,
no toys spread over the floor.
No chubby arms reach out in delight
as Nana comes through the door.
No baby talk and cute little grin,
no angel showing her charms;
no hugs for Nan, no kiss on the chin,
no child to wrap in my arms.
For me, it's been a wonderful week
with kids and grandie around,
but now I feel just a little bit bleak,
alone at home with no sound.

Re: After Their Departure
Yes Irene, I've just had three of my young'uns down at Granny and Pa's for Christmas and I reckon they probably felt that way.
But also perhaps a touch of:
No balls kicked in the vegie patch,
no agapanthus crushed.
No crumbs found on the loungeroom couch,
no toilet found unflushed.
No squealing whilst the news is on,
no wishing it would cease.
No carnage in the kitchen . . .
a cuppa tea in peace
Cheers, Marty

Yep Irene, and others
when our youngest whirlwind comes to visit it takes us an hour to put the toys away and sweep up the biscuit crumbs after he goes. But we wouldn't have it any other way.

Re: After Their Departure
Yes Maureen - it will be there for her!!
Marty, I love your version also!! But I haven't had my grand child long enough, and she isn't old enough for me to think of those things as yet!! I just had to contend with toys across the floor, food thrown over the edge of the highchair, and crawling into the bathroom to share a shower with Nana when she's trying to get ready for work!! But I will no doubt remember your verses in a few years!!
Zondrae and Neville - it is certainly all about family, and the joy they bring!! I love to have all my kids around at some time over the christmas break - doesn't have to be christmas day - and that makes my christmas!! (or any other day, for that matter!! )
