I Prayed for Rain
A little contemplative muse to while away the time driving to Perth today.
I Prayed For Rain
© Irene Conner 07/12/10
I prayed to you for rain, dear Lord;
the paddocks they were dry.
We’d waited long for darkened clouds;
to see the heavens cry.
The daylights hours were scorching hot
with harsh, dry winds that blew;
the winter feed had long since died –
at least, the feed that grew!
For rain had been in short supply
through winters balmy clime.
I prayed to you for rain, dear Lord.
I said ‘I think it’s time!’
I know you’ve heard my heartfelt plea –
I watched the clouds arrive.
But why, dear Lord, send rain right now
when I’ve a three hour drive?!?!
It's all in the timing, isn't it???
I have been wanting the rain for so long to refresh my perennial pasture, but why today????
Don't like driving and shopping in the rain!!!
But the rain was good, really!!!

Very funny Irene. We are never happy are we?
We are expecting another deluge today, channels are pre-dug this time, snorkels at the ready, hope to finish off the ark in time...

Re: I Prayed for Rain
DAve -didn't you get any??? Mind you, we didn't get too much - but enough to keep my worn windscreen wipers scratching all the way to Perth!!! And a couple of heavy showers that had me straining to see above where my wipers weren't working too well!! Didn't need them over winter, so didn't know they needed replacing !
My sincerest apologies to all you t'othersiders who are experiencing excessive downpours of rain - I forgot I have to be specific!!! OK, I will revise my prayers, be more specific, and pray for the rain to stop over there, and come here!!! (Off loading the excess along the way, so we just get a reasonable amount - not a deluge!!)
Good luck with the ark, Heather!

Re: I Prayed for Rain
G'day all,
Yes, we did pray for rain, long and hard. Now we fear it will never stop. I don't like to pray to stop the rain. We may get another 10 year drought. I think my priest has hit the nail on the head. He has begun to pray
"Lord, give those who labour hard on the land, the weather they need at this time."
I'm with him in a resounding 'Amen.'

Summer Rain taps at my window
West wind soft as a sweet dream
My love, warm as the sunshine
Sitting here by me, yeah
She's here by me.
All summer long we were dancing in the sand
Everybody just kept on playing "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"................................
