A New Beginning

Post by Zondrae » Sun Oct 31, 2010 10:43 am

I thought this an appropriate title for an opening poem.

This has just been placed second in the 'Birds of the Singing Garden' section of the Toolangi Festival Victoria.

A New Beginning
© Zondrae King (Corrimal) 12/08

The indigo blanket of night fills the sky
and peace washes over the land.
The eastern horizon has yet to grow pale
and night creatures make their last stand.

Then slowly, so slowly the magpie awakes
and calls to her mate to arise.
While gently the breeze brings a jackass’s laugh.
He too sends his song to the skies.

The angel of morning now draws back the drapes
and starts the first rays creeping in.
The sun’s golden fingers reach over the rim
The glories of morning begin.

It’s spring and the wattle is heavy with gold
and nectar that bees will collect.
Across the whole land the same story is told.
Both night and day earn our respect.

There, deep in a burrow the Platypus curls
her babies are safe and well fed.
While high in the tree tops, in some hollow log
a possum is going to bed.

Then pure golden warmth is poured over the earth.
The day creatures rise from their bed.
We stretch and we yawn and we breathe in new life
as stars disappear overhead.

Hi Zondrae...
Congratulations from me too. A lovely idyllic feel to this...I can almost hear the first movement of Beethoven's Pastorale playing softly in the background.

Cheers, Will.

hello Zondrae, and congratulations on your achievements

How could you fail with a beautiful visual and a rhythm in 3/4 time.

A lovely waltz,

Thank you for the dance and the scenery,

It's never to late; just do it
I'll set pen to paper
Write now, not later
And post it so others may view it
