The Unwritten Verses
The Unwritten Verses
The Unwritten Verses
When in company that’s polite, there are things we don’t discuss,
For to do so may some fisticuffs invite.
For discussion of religion is sure to end in a fuss,
And an argument on politics - a fight.
Therefore - I have decided not to write about the two,
For to stable social order I adhere.
Yes, and most who know me know about these things I’ve not a clue,
I’ll give no opinions – so you needn’t fear.
I’m not writing that religion is a form of superstition,
Or that in the face of modern science it flies.
That’s a judgment that you must make of your very own volition,
Just be sure that sane analysis applies.
And I’m not applying ink to pad to say it causes wars,
Or that diverse faiths don’t get along too well.
And I wouldn’t be suggesting that religion is the cause
Of a lot of martyrs heading straight to hell.
As for politics that’s something I will surely not discuss,
Though I think the Greens are mad and Labor’s worse.
And I’ve not much time for Tories and I couldn’t give a cuss
For independents who are now our nation’s curse.
So I think that with these few lines I’ve been careful not to write,
I’ve achieved just what I set out not to do;
For I’ve not said politics and big religion is a blight,
And I’m fairly sure they don’t have grounds to sue.

Yeah, Zondrae. That would have been even more apt.
However Dennis, I did enjoy it.

Glad you do Ross, wasn't sure whether my mixture of poetry would fit in here - haven't been kicked out yet.
