Current item in the ABC Rural, Northern Territory section about Grey Nomads in single file along the Stuart, in both directions prompted this one from my writing store -

Ramblin’ the road that leads to everywhere is mighty good for your soul.
Do not select a particular place, have anywhere as your goal -

Road to Everywhere.

There’s a road that leads to everywhere across rolling hills and plains,
by red dirt it is painted, even down flat culvert drains.
It stretches to high mountains where wide winged eagles soar,
it plunges down to valleys and where mighty rivers roar
then meanders to far oceans with a whitened crystal shore.

Rolling hills dressed in their greenery are solace to your eye,
as a portrait with a backdrop, a softly tinted sky.
Saltbush plains are finely dotted with pincushion mimosa clumps,
while corrugated, winding mountain tracks or gravelled trails with stumps,
cause an exhilaration in a pounding heart which jumps.

Torrential rains rush to the South to make all rivers run
with sparkling, glistening water which dances in the sun.

So take the Road to Everywhere,

to connect with every other one.

(c).Rimeriter circa 2000.

...struth Jim, looks like you got it at a good time, just been graded! when I first saw the snap I thought it was the Santa Teresa road, that can be just as rough to at times. As I have said before, I have crossed the Plenty a couple of times, been as far as Lucy Creek a few times (That's a Fogarty property by the way), Harts Range a lot of times, you have to be lucky to strike it when it has just been graded!

Lucky me. I didn't realise it at that time.
But it was a bit like many country roads, the 'good' stuff peters out after a few miles.
Nevertheless, we made Boulia, then eventually through the 'corner' and on to the 'Hill.
All good stuff.

But as the caption indicates, the Plenty is just one of those roads to everywhere.
This you would know far better than I.
I can only travel it. I assume you live it.

"Best regards".
Jim.

Hi Jim

Like your poem. Where exactly is the picture taken? You know it looks like quite few roads I've travelled and that is not very many. Nice!

Cheers

Dot

"Thank you" Dot.

The Plenty Highway takes off to the right soon after crossing the Tropic of Capricorn, if you're heading north along the Stuart from Alice.
It is easterly to Qld which is about 800 kms, then another 200/300 kms to Boulia.

As I have said in other places, the Plenty part is correct but highway it is not.
However, it was good fun.
Jim.

...not quite Jim, the turnoff is 75Km north of Alice (the tropic of Capricorn is 30Km), it is 800Km to Boulia from Alice, Tobermory is on the border and that is about 500Km from Alice, other than that you are pretty much on the money!... ;)
