The Spirit of Australia

Post by Irene » Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:44 am

To all who are experiencing such devastation in Queensland, know that our thoughts are with you.
How great it is to be an australian when you see the courage and help that is pouring out to those in need.

The Spirit of Australia
© Irene Conner 12/01/11

Like the phoenix from the ashes,
like the torrent from it’s bed
see the spirit of Australia
once again raise up it’s head.

This great spirit is unfettered
as it lends a helping hand,
and it draws our hearts together
from across our mighty land.

See the courage that’s undaunted,
feel the love that’s flowing free;
In the midst of devastation
there’s no greater place to be.

Tho’ this land you see is broken,
and your lives are torn apart,
Feel the spirit of Australia
sitting strong within your heart.
What goes around, comes around.

Hi Irene,
A very stirring poem, the first of many we will see I suspect over coming weeks.
It's a terrible situation for so many people isn't it.
I really enjoyed the read, it's written with your usual touch of class.

Great poem Irene. It's times like this it's good to be an Australian.

Irene
Makes one feel a bit humble after having a little whinge about watering the garden by hand at least we still have a garden, we sit here watching it all unfold right down the eastern states, fire destroying houses 100 k from us, Carnarvon market gardens wiped out and a cyclone heading for the west coast. Please ever body out there accept a great big hug from this old bloke.

We've all needed that spirit from time to time Irene.

Always pleasing when folk pull together.
