Shyness

Post by thestoryteller » Thu Jun 16, 2016 10:16 am

Sometimes I would ride one of the property's ponies to dances held at Mt Frome. Mr Rope's daughter Ivy had taken my fancy, but my terrible shyness made it impossible for me to even get within cooee of her. My reluctance always found me staring at her across the dance floor and though it was obvious she felt something for me my shyness made sure I never knew just how much.

SHYNESS

This shyness is a dreadful thing
and plagues a lad like me.
For when young Ivy looks my way
my face goes red you see.

A pretty lass young Ivy is,
her smile as fresh as Spring.
If only I could rid myself
of this tormenting thing.

Her long dark hair is black as night
tied back with ribbons blue.
I’d surely love to have a dance
t’would be a dream come true.

I know she waits so anxiously
to see m cross the floor.
This shyness though it keeps me from
the lass I do adore.

My heart and shyness are at odds
and tear my soul apart.
If only one could just express
the feelings in one’s heart.

Tomorrow morn I’ll feel regret
or maybe even worse.
I’ll not have danced with Ivy rope;
my shyness is a curse.
