Call Back

62 - Call Back

A catchup is an adjective,
a callback just the same,
a time and place to meet and greet,
to rejoice and to acclaim.
Some can be resentful,
a lot you’d like to pass,
most can be so memorable,
and some a pain in the arse.

The quest is never ending,
scenarios just the same,
you never hear “I’ll call you back”,
there’s no one taking blame.
20 minutes hanging on
music in your ear,
enough to rip your heart out
any day of the year.

Lives are lived ‘round call backs,
in every thing we do,
most times so frustrating
“I’ll get back to you”.
“Just leave a message”,
“I’m busy on the phone”,
“call again tomorrow”
“I’m out of range” at home.

Your health now in a system,
select your own GP,
time slot for an appointment,
a month or two to see.
Once you’re in the system,
they’ll run you off your feet,
blood test here, X-ray there,
and, “call back in a week”.

To go and see a lawyer,
results are just the same,
busy for a month or two,
leave your number and name.
Call backs non existent
on leave, in court, or ill,
in the event of an answer,
they add it to the bill.

A reunion called for ringers,
the day has come at last,
a get together of old friends
a look back at the past.
Paradise is calling,
aged but still the same
a rum and coke and catch-up,
heading home again.

A catchup is an adjective,
a callback just the same,
a time and place to meet and greet,
to rejoice and to acclaim.
Some can be resentful,
a lot you’d like to pass,
most can be so memorable,
and some a pain in the arse.
