The weekly winners thus far:

1. The One That Got Away. Warren Cox
2. Frog Discrimination. Leonie Parker
3. A Bucket Full. Warren Cox
4. A Bushman's Paradise. Bev Wilson
5. Where The Ole Endeavour Flows. Jim Egan
6. The Hem of Her Apron. Zondrae King
7. My Sweetheart Won't Be Back. Jim Egan
8. The Sheik of the Scrubby. Brenda Joy
9. A Touch of Frost. Darryl Cooper
10. The Shrieks of Scrubby Creek. Geoff Mann



That's the 10 weekly winners. First, second and third prize will be announced at the Grand Final next Wednesday, the 18th July.

Anyone in Cairns (or not) is more than welcome to attend the final. It's at the Freshwater CWA Hall - between the canefields and the mountains - from 8.30am, Wednesday July 18 for a two and a half hour live broadcast soley devoted to Bush Poetry with all the weekly winners presenting their poems with a sumptuous buffet of tea, coffee, dampers, cakes and much more for just a gold coin donation. It's part of the local CWA Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser :D

Hey Marty, when you get the finals over and done with, would you like to put something together for the ABPA Magazine as our FNQ rep and maybe highlight it around the winning poem or whatever? I'll leave the artistic side up to you, mate.

Would be great reading and great exposure for a terrific concept you have got up and running. Email if you need.

Yeah no worries, Neil . . . I'd be happy to knock something up for the mag - it is a terrific concept but all kudos has got to go to the ABC Radio and The Cairns Show Society . . I'm just part of the judging panel and the messanger.

Zondrae (and everyone else) send any poems (under 3 minutes) to Fiona Sewell at farnorth@your.abc.net.au.

Big congratulations to Brenda Joy for winning week 8 of the competition with her poem The Sheik of the Scrubby. Onya Brenda!

Amongst the top 5 placings were Sue Pearce, Val Wallace and Bob Pacey.

Great comp and outlet for Bush poetry Marty and many thanks for the regular updates.


Perhaps Fiona might look to find someway of getting some of the content to air on other ABC venues ??
